THIS IS THE MOMENT A COMEDY LEGEND TURNED A NATIONAL TREASURE INTO A LAUGHING MESS ON LIVE TELEVISION
You have seen roasts on Comedy Central
You have watched celebrities get destroyed by their friends on Netflix specials
But nothing will ever compare to what Don Rickles did to Clint Eastwood at the Kennedy Center Honors in the year 2000
This was not some edgy cable show where anything goes
This was one of the most prestigious and formal events in American culture
Presidents attend this ceremony
Hollywood royalty fills the audience
And everyone is supposed to be polite and respectful
Then Don Rickles walked onto that stage and set the entire room on fire
If you have never seen this moment you are missing one of the greatest pieces of comedy ever broadcast on American television
Let me break down exactly what happened and why this clip still goes viral more than two decades later
THE SETUP WAS ALREADY PERFECT BEFORE DON RICKLES SAID A SINGLE WORD
Clint Eastwood was being honored for a lifetime of incredible work in film
He is the man who gave us Dirty Harry
He directed Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby
He is an icon of American cinema and masculinity
The audience was full of senators...
