THIS IS NOT A DRILL. YOUR ENTIRE MOOD IS ABOUT TO CHANGE FOREVER.
Saturday Night Live has been delivering iconic comedy for decades. But every once in a while, a sketch comes along that makes you forget how to breathe. The Parole Board sketch is exactly that kind of masterpiece. You sit down thinking you will watch a simple courtroom comedy. Then suddenly you are gripping your chair and crying with laughter. The concept sounds simple on the surface. A parole board listens to inmates making their case for release. What could possibly go wrong in that scenario. The answer is everything. Absolutely everything goes wrong in the most spectacular fashion.
THE MOMENT THE DOOR OPENS YOU KNOW TROUBLE IS COMING
The sketch wastes zero time setting the tone.
You are introduced to a panel of serious looking officials.
They have their paperwork ready and their professional expressions locked in.
Then the first inmate walks in and the energy completely shifts.
The performance is so committed that you forget you are watching comedy.
Every line delivery feels unpredictable and dangerous.
That is the magic of SNL when it is firing on all cylinders.
You never know what insane thing will happen next....
