JOHN BELUSHI MADE LITTLE CHOCOLATE DONUTS THE SECRET TO ATHLETIC GREATNESS!
What happens when one of the wildest comedians in television history is presented as an elite Olympic athlete?
You get “Little Chocolate Donuts.”
This classic Saturday Night Live commercial parody takes an incredibly simple idea and pushes it into absurd territory.
John Belushi appears as an athletic champion performing impressive feats on the track and field.
Everything looks serious.
The narration sounds serious.
The competition feels serious.
But then comes the ridiculous secret behind his success: Little Chocolate Donuts.
The sketch originally aired on November 19, 1977, during Season 3, Episode 6 of Saturday Night Live, hosted by Buck Henry with Leon Redbone as musical guest.
John Belushi Was Born For This Kind Of Comedy
John Belushi had a unique ability to make an absurd character feel completely believable.
That quality is at the center of this sketch.
Rather than playing the joke with a wink, Belushi commits himself completely to the role of the supposedly unstoppable athlete.
He runs.
He competes.
He celebrates his victories.
And the entire presentation treats him like a legitimate champion....
